The Collingwood Horse Shows are proud to announce their twentieth year of success. Since it’s inception in 1986, this Horse Show has expanded and matured into one of Eastern Canada’s largest Hunter and Jumper events. What was once a small one-week venue has developed into two separate events spanning a two-week period? The first event is called the Collingwood Festival (World Cup Qualifier), the second, the Kubota Collingwood Classic (Kubota Cup Grand Prix). Together they are known as The Collingwood Horse Shows. They have accomplished the rarity of becoming a permanent yearly affair for the past nineteen years, with 2007 being their twentieth year of unstoppable success. With a number of exciting upcoming changes and modifications, 2007 it will prove to be the most lucrative year for the events to date.
All caliber of riders come to Collingwood to compete; from veteran riders to amateurs to youngsters on ponies vying for the $250,000.00 total purse for the 2 separate events. While show jumping takes center stage, there are numerous reasons to show up as Fisher Field in Collingwood. The horses are only part of the entertainment. You can also enjoy the best horse show food anywhere. The kids enjoy the clowns, magicians and musicians that will make them ‘jump’ for joy. A regular and well received attraction will be the numerous booths/vendors who will offer a variety of equestrian/western wear products. It features nationally televised Grand Prix competitions, a bustling trade fair called “The Walk”, as well as family entertainment sometimes including antique shows, Located at the foot of the beautiful Blue Mountains, the Collingwood Horse Shows are only minutes away from downtown Collingwood where numerous amenities are available pre and post show.
The success of the Collingwood Horse Shows is by and large due to the substantial efforts and contributions of local volunteers, businesses, community groups, the town of Collingwood itself, and a dedicated management team who oversee every aspect and detail of the events. Both local Government and business recognize the significant economic impact that the Collingwood Horse Shows have on the area. It has been estimated that the events generate combined revenue of approximately $10 million for the region during the two week period.
