THE
VILLAGES & HAMLETS
Thornbury
is a picturesque village that offers a Riverwalk trail that connects
the harbour, the Dam, and Thornbury to Clarksburg. The easy terrain
trail meanders through some of the most beautiful locations in the
area following the Beaver River from the Mill Dam to the Clendennan
Dam. Stop at the Mill Dam in spring or fall to see the fish
jumping up the fish ladder to spawn. Little River Beach is a
pebbled, Blue Flag designated beach, and a popular swimming
destination. Washrooms, shady trees, ample parking, and a
playground make this a great location for families. Old fashioned
shops and historic restaurants are calling your name!
Clarksburg
is located just south of Thornbury, and is home to striking
Victorian houses. This bustling village has many interesting places
to shop and dine in, and also has many art studios and galleries.
Located near the Clendenan Dam, nature surrounds this lovely
village.
The Hamlets of Ravenna,
Heathcote, Redwing, Duncan, and Kolapore
are surrounded by apple blossoms in spring, canola fields in summer,
and year-round stunning views of the Blue Mountains and Beaver
valley. Each place offers its own unique local samplings such as
locally grown apple pie, gourmet baking, and fresh ingredient filled
lunches! The Kolapore Uplands features walking/hiking,
cross-country skiing, cycling, and snowshoeing trails that wind
throughout the countryside.
Craigleith
is built upon fractured plates of slate that hold 455 million year
old fossils called Trilobites. If outdoor recreation is of interest
to you, the private Craigleith Ski Club is located here and they
offer skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoe trails, and a tennis club
during the summer months. |
